Making theatre accessible to all Western Australians is a priority for Black Swan State Theatre Company.

As Principal Partner, Rio Tinto has supported the company for ten years, sharing this commitment and supporting regional touring and education programmes in schools.

In 2008, the Australian Business Arts Foundation recognised this partnership by naming it a National Finalist for the Bytecraft Entertainment Commitment Award. The partnership also won the outstanding long term partnership award at the 2008 WA Business and the Arts Awards.

The partnership between Rio Tinto and Black Swan has brought many Western Australian stories to the stage, showcasing local talent and sharing our rich culture with wider audiences.

In 2008, Jandamarra was staged during the Perth International Arts Festival to sell out crowds. The story of the Kimberley warrior was presented in three languages and involved the Fitzroy Crossing Bunuba community members in a number of production roles.

As Black Swan grows, and Rio Tinto continues its support as Principal Partner, the company intends to bring more Western Australian stories to the stage through the newly established Rio Tinto Black Swan Commissions.
