Inland employees have gone above and beyond this year, once again contributing valuable funds to the Royal Flying Doctor Service emergency and primary health care operations in remote WA.

Seventy eight Yandi employees raised an amazing $3,400 for the RFDS when they recently attended the sites third quiz night in support of the organisation.

As part of the Employees in the Community programme, Rio Tinto has matched all Yandi’s quiz night earnings bringing the sites total fundraising to $10,042.

Another generous Rio Tinto inland employee is condition monitoring coordinator Fritz Neumann.

Fritz won a raffle totalling $1,000 during a condition monitoring round table forum in Melbourne, and generously donated the prize to the RFDS.

“Rio Tinto engineers and technicians are regularly exposed to hazards while travelling and working in remote areas. Sometimes things go wrong and we need medical help,” Fritz said.

“I have seen RFDS employees in action saving life and limb at remote sites. I know Rio Tinto actively supports the RFDS so my small contribution will help keep its planes in the air.”

In July, Rio Tinto announced a partnership with the RFDS to provide its first medical jet retrieval service. The jet, which will half travel times to Perth from remote and regional locations across the State, will be based in Western Australia and called the Rio Tinto Life Flight.
