Back to school for Vince
When Vince and his wife Gayle moved to Kununurra over a year ago, they decided to participate in the local community to help them settle into their new surrounds. Vince is now an energetic Board member at St Joseph’s Primary School in Kununurra and his wife, Gayle, is Treasurer of the Parents’ Association.
Outside of his activities on the Board, Vince works with Argyle Diamonds as a Manager for Security and Emergency Services. He has been employed in this position for 18 months and previously worked in the Police Force.
Among the members of the School Board are a number of other Rio Tinto employees, including Richard Hutton. Argyle Diamonds also funds some of the School’s specific projects and provides in-kind support like raffle prizes.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Kununurra has 300 students, 60 percent of which are Indigenous. The school Board plays a very active role in the school, including holding a food stall every weekend at Paddy’s Market to raise funds.
In August 2007, the school celebrated its 40th anniversary. One of the highlights for the School in it’s 40 years was in 2006, when the students won the Wakakirri festival for arts and writing.
Besides being a member of the school board, Vince is also a volunteer ambulance driver at St Johns Ambulance in Kununurra, and he also helps as a volunteer at the annual Kimberley Moon Festival. For Vince and Gayle, participating in the community has not only benefited local organisations, it has helped them settle into a new town and make many new friends.
