Tiny tots hit Scitech
11 February 2009

Run between 9 – 20 February, Toddlerfest at Scitech gives thousands of ankle biters the chance to run, crawl, play, squeeze, pat, roll and explore in a safe, stimulating and educational environment.
“This is an impressive program that will directly benefit the education of thousands of young Western Australians,” says Dr Constable.
Last year more than 8000 parents, grandparents and children took part in the program which provides a specialised series of programs, activities and events for 0-5 year olds.
Thanks to a partnership between Rio Tinto and Scitech, 0 – 5 year olds in childcare centres, playgroups, public libraries and kindergartens throughout the State will be able to benefit from the exhibits and activities showcased during Toddlerfest year round through the Early Childhood Outreach programme. The programme, which is being trialled in Kindergartens from March, will include activity based learning and play-based science activities; involving parents, teachers and carers in the investigative process.
Chief executive Sam Walsh said “A well educated community is vital to the growth of this State. Scitech’s move to incorporate programmes that start from early years will ensure that a love of science is nurtured from birth and will allow even the youngest children to explore science concepts through hands on experiences”.
