Purple Bra Bonanza
13 June 2008
Pop queen Madonna may have made wearing lingerie on the outside fashionable, but even she couldn't top what some of our employees pulled off for Purple Bra Day, which all Rio Tinto’s Western Australian businesses took part in.
Hats off to the Paraburdoo softball team who played an entire game with their bras on the outside of their uniform - the women managed to raise $600.
And to Phil Arnott at Argyle Diamonds, whose co-workers chipped in more than $800 just to see him sport a silky D cup for the day.
An Exploration HR Officer with a bit of imagination and culinary flair actually baked a purple bra cake complete with cleavage, but we pitied the poor bloke who was asked to slice it up and serve it for morning tea.
The girls at HIsmelt swallowed their pride and walked the Kwinana "strip" collecting more than $700 from organisations outside of Rio Tinto.
Even our suppliers pitched in money for the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA (BCFWA) with Petroleum Aviation Mining Supplies donating 10 per cent of all Rio Tinto sales in June.
The top fundraisers this year were employees at Yandicoogina who raised more than $1,000 for BCFWA.
The final total will be matched by the company up to $20,000, through the Choose your own Charity initiative.
