Pilbara fishing competition a cracker

Anglers young and old wet a line for Rio Tinto's inaugural Crackerjack Fishing Classic on the weekend of October 3rd
One hundred and fifty would be “Rex Hunts” boarded 28 boats, lured to securing the title of Rio Tinto’s top Pilbara angler.
Dampier's Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club was the home port for the competition, which was open to all Rio Tinto employees and their families.
Sea worthy vessels from as far as Pannawonica were towed to Dampier and Point Samson for launching, with the winning boat “Wet Dreams” captained by champion male Jason Hornhardt, a Maintainer from Dampier, taking home bragging rights at days end
Captain Hornhardt said “We had a great day out on the water and it was fantastic that the business organised a bit of a different event for employees to participate in with their families”
Kelly Williams, was the champion female and Chloe Storer took out the junior champion award, from a 30 strong field.

Prizes were awarded for the heaviest catch in each species and the winning Rio Tinto business department. Jack Sato, managing director of Robe River and Pilbara Infrastructure, presented Dampier Port Operations with the Crackerjack trophy for the winning business department.
The Crackerjack committee would like to thank the Cape scaffolders, Embroidery Excellence, Adventure Sports and the Department of Fisheries, who brought the Rio Tinto-sponsored education trailer to the event Back to news »
