Get on your bike!
23 November 2008
Employees and family members of all ages enjoyed the Great Bike Ride It was pedals a plenty at Langley Park for the annual Great Bike Ride presented by the City of Perth 2008 on Sunday, November 23.
Rio Tinto Iron Ore employees strapped on their helmets to raise over $17,000 in registration fees and fundraising as part of the company's Employees in the Community programme. The bike ride was one of six fundraising events chosen by employees through the Choose your own Charity initiative in 2008.
187 employees took part in the 53km bike ride, while 43 took on the challenge and completed two laps to total 106km. 97 adults and 25 children completed the 10km Family circuit.
The combined number for Team Rio Tinto was 352, a mammoth effort providing a wonderful opportunity to meet with work colleagues and their family members.
"Rio Tinto was the largest corporate team," said Andrew Appleby of TriEvents, the event organiser.
"We were very happy with how the event went. It was good weather, a good day, with good feedback and we raised a lot of money for three very worthwhile charities."
The final figure was double what the event raised in 2007 - with total funds raised reaching $165,000. Three charities will benefit from this years event; the Heart Foundation, the St John of God Foundation Horizon House Project and Hope for the Children.
