Chinese Business major at Murdoch
30 November 2007
From 2008, Murdoch University will be delivering a major in Chinese Business as part of its Bachelor of Commerce programme. As part of the programme, students will be offered the opportunity to undertake an intensive, six month language study in a Chinese university.
To recognise the importance of this course and to encourage students to undertake the elective semester in China, Rio Tinto has agree to provide in-kind support and scholarship funding to two scholarship recipients per term for the next three years.
In-kind support will include the provision of course material for the new major, vacation employment programme opportunities to Murdoch students enrolled in the programme as well as internship opportunities while the scholarship students are living in China.
“This is an important course for Murdoch and for our industry generally” said Manager for Community Investment, Robyn Sermon. “It is telling that the University has chosen to include this in the Bachelor of Commerce programme, and highlights the value of acquiring relevant business and language skills to work within this marketplace. We believe that this opportunity is a win-win for our business, and look forward to accommodating the first cohort in China this year”.
